Hello there, this time I have a nice Post from the best Site all over the world “Smashing Magazine“, that’s will made some concepts clear for your and your workflow with Photoshop.
Enjoy!

Congratulations. You’ve just completed a pixel-perfect mock-up of an app, and you’ve gotten the nod from everyone on the team. All that’s left to do is save the tens, hundreds or maybe even thousands of production assets required to bring it to life.

It’s probably the least interesting part of designing software, usually entailing hours of grinding. Saving images to multiple scales — as required by iOS and other platforms — adds complication to the process. But there are ways to streamline or automate the exporting process.

[Editor's note: A must-have for professional Web designers and developers: The Printed Smashing Books Bundle is full of practical insight for your daily work. Get the bundle right away!]

Copy Merged

Cutting up a design with the “Copy Merged” feature is fairly easy: ensure that the layers are shown or hidden as needed; draw a Marquee selection around the element; choose Edit → Copy Merged, and then File → New; hit Return; and then “Paste.” The result is a new document with your item isolated, trimmed to the absolute smallest size possible.
From here, all you need to do is save the image using “Save As” or “Save for Web & Devices.”

Rinse and repeat for every image needed for the app or website. The technique is simple and quick, but repetitive; and if you ever need to export the images again, you’ll have to start from scratch.

This seems to be the most common method and, for some designers, the only method, which is a shame, because better techniques exist.

You could create an action that triggers the “Copy Merged,” “New,” “Paste” process — a small time-saver, but ultimately not much of an improvement to the workflow.

In Apple’s recent iCloud and iOS5 keynote, a vast array of brushed aluminium style icons were used. In this tutorial we learn how to create an incredible iCloud style aluminium icon in just a few minutes.

It’s been a real rush to launch this episode (these video tutorials aren’t quick to make!) but I’m very excited to be able to offer the first full tutorial for creating these icons with a freshly pioneered method. You saw it here on PhotoGuides first!

Better still, the tutorial is versatile enough to allow you to create these aluminium icons with any logo or text embedded, and you’ll hopefully be able to adapt the brushed aluminium methods for use in other images.

That’s a big Deal!
On this Post from “1st webdesigner“, you’ll find many tips & Tricks on some very important questions about how Photoshop works!
This thread the Author gives you some tips on Color Settings, which is a good point for Designers everytime.
I hope you’ll discover something new for your Work.
Enjoy the Post!

Color settings are often skipped by self taught Photoshop users and usually people can get away without any knowledge of them. So should you bother getting familiar with them?
The real question is – how serious are you about your work? If the answer is anything else then “not at all”, then any additional knowledge benefits you. Basic knowledge of the options here can make your life much easier at some points. Your designs will probably be displayed in multiple places in various shapes and forms, therefore you might want to make sure, that they look they way you intended them to look. The following article will give you a helping hand in achieving that goal.

Let me start off by telling you, that the purpose of this article is not to give you a long and probably boring explanation of all the options and their respective descriptions, but to give you enough knowledge so that you know what you’re doing.
Let’s begin with localizing the Color Profiles option.
You can access them from the Photoshop menu Edit -> Color Settings or by using the shortcut CTRL+Shift+K .

The following window should come up:

Hello there,
after a while we’re in the new Year now, and let’s begin to search together something awesome on the web, there’s a very useful stuff out there, and this year more then ever.
I would like to begin this year with a new Post that I’d read on one of the best Blogs ever, like “Smashing Magazine“, with Tons of contents about every argument you like to care about, believe me, for designers or programmer is a MUST.
I hope you will enjoy this Article like I did, and meanwhile, take care!

Compositing is a skill and process that spans the entire spectrum of creative industries. At the high end, compositing boasts its own specialized profession in film and television post production and visual effects. Dedicated software such as NUKE and Shake have taken the craft to powerful levels of its own, leaving behind the relatively basic compositing toolset of Adobe Photoshop. However, for many graphics practitioners compositing is a vital everyday process — and as with all pixel-pushing endeavors, Photoshop remains the entry point and hub to learning and ultimately mastering the fundamentals of this important skill.

In this article, I’ll share some of my own time-saving tips for compositing in Photoshop. Tips such as these should never replace a solid understanding of your craft; however, being able to adapt a technique to make it work for you is part of being a creative professional. I encourage you to share your own creative compositing tips in the comments to this article, and think about how you have adapted existing techniques to work for you.

Tip 1: Matching Tones, Channel by Channel

One of the challenges we face when compositing is matching the colors and tones of various images to produce a realistic and convincing composite. This method aims to save you from spending time fiddling around with color balances and layers upon layers of adjustments, by showing you a systematic approach that should become second nature and enhance your compositing skill set.
Hello again folks,
I’ve found here another amazing Tutorial from “PS Hero” to create some really gorgeous 3D Text effects.
Enjoy!

In this Photoshop tutorial we’re going to step outside my usual Photoshop Only philosophy and use the 3D rendering power of Adobe Illustrator to create a cool little 3D text effect. Don’t worry noobs, you don’t need to know anything about Illustrator, as usual I’ll coach you through the whole process, but you do need to have it installed on your computer. (*note: If you don’t have Illustrator, you can jump over to Adobe.com and download a 30 day trial version to play around with.)

Lets get started by opening a new Photoshop document by choosing File > New from the Main Menu or by using the keyboard shortcut Command-N (PC: Ctrl-N). I’m using my usual 540px by 300px size at 72 pixels/inch and a background color of White.
